He had no right speaking to her like he'd done. Granted she didn't do as he asked. But still. She was getting more and more pissed as the day wore on and she had a good mind to email Marco48 and tell him she'd meet him tonight just to spite Van.
She drove down the road the Connerts lived on and tried getting her temper under control. As she neared the Connerts' home, she slowed just a bit and watched as Bethany carried some items to the garage. One of the items looked to be a long narrow post or pole. There was a red blanket or sheet on top of a box and the box itself seemed not that heavy, but still not light in weight. Not wanting to seem suspicious, she had to keep driving but she wondered about the items Bethany carried.
Turning to the right at the end of the street, she made another right at the first street and that's when it hit her. That red sheet was the same color as the one in that upper bedroom with the camera. Bethany was hiding it in case she came back for a home visit.
Her heart hammered in her chest and she tried to focus on what she should do next. They were hiding evidence. Melvyn was probably Marco48 and Bethany knew they'd get caught, which meant she knew all about it. Or had she just found out about it when they'd gone up into that room? Her hands began shaking and she wondered how she could get into that garage and see for herself. She couldn't be caught breaking in. Then she thought if she hurried, she could just stop in and see Bethany back there and perhaps step inside and get a close up look for herself.
Pulling into a driveway she carefully backed out of it and pointed her car in the opposite direction. Her throat dried and her heartbeat sped up as she turned left at the end of the street and then another left to turn on to the street the Connerts lived on. She went as fast as she dared and found a space just a few down from the front of the Connertsâ home.
Jumping quickly from her vehicle, she walked as fast as her heeled feet would take her without falling and making things worse. As she started up the driveway Bethany saw her and quickly turned to lock the garage door. Hadleigh halted only briefly, failure crawling up her body as she plastered on a smile and continued forward toward Bethany.
"Hi Bethany. How are you?"
Bethany turned and folded her hands in front of her. The look on her face was not the happy look she normally received and Hadleigh knew why.
"I'm fine. What are you doing here again today?"
"I saw you outside and thought I'd stop in. I'm sorry things were left tense between us. I sure don't want that for either of us so I thought I'd stop in and apologize while I was in the area.
